Lanzarote is a truly unique island. Part of the Canary archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, the island offers strikingly diverse landscapes. The juxtaposition of moon-like terrain created by volcanic eruptions and the beautiful white sand beaches creates a spectacular and unexpected scenery. The island was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1993. In addition to volcanic landscapes such as the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya, the island is host to incredible architecture and art galleries.

Most of the island’s architecture has been influenced by its climate. Lanzarote possesses a warm climate throughout the year so the houses are white as to reflect the sun’s rays and prevent the temperature inside from increasing too much.

When discussing the island of Lanzarote, it is impossible not to mention island-born artist César Manrique. His outstanding work and influence can be seen throughout the island and it left an indelible imprint (for example, his architectural interventions, such as Jameos del Agua, the now Fundación César Manrique or the Jardín de Cactus).
